Security & Safety

  • Make sure all windows and doors are securely locked, taking care to check the back of the house too
  • Set timer lights to come on in the evenings to deter unwanted visitors
  • Turn off appliances and heating to save money on bills whilst you are away
  •  Let the neighbours know you are away
  • Take the bins out before you go to avoid nasty smells on your return
  • Store valuables in a safe place to leave them with friends or neighbours
  • If you have pets, make plans for them to be taken care of

Holidays are for relaxing and letting off steam but don’t forget to pay attention to the everyday dangers that are still present even on holiday.

  • Balconies – an increasing number of travellers fall from balconies whilst on holiday. Never climb between balconies and always supervise children in these spaces
  • Water – always be aware of the depth of water before jumping and diving and choose pools and beaches with lifeguards present. Never allow children to swim alone no matter how confident they are
  • Road safety – driving on unfamiliar roads can lead to an increased risk of road accidents. Always check local rules and regulations and water seat-belts
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning – known as the silent killer, carbon monoxide can be expelled from poorly serviced or faulty boilers or other fossil-fuel burning appliances. Take along a carbon monoxide alarm to warn against leaks
